Devotional Maundy Thursday

Scripture Reading: John 13:34

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.”

Reflection:

On Maundy Thursday, we encounter Jesus’ new commandment to love one another as He has loved us. As we reflect on this scripture, the Thursday of Holy Week prompts us to contemplate the radical nature of Jesus’ love and the challenge to extend that love to others. How does Jesus’ love, exemplified through humble service and sacrificial giving, shape our relationships and interactions with those around us?

Moreover, John 13:34 challenges us to embrace sacrificial love as a distinguishing mark of discipleship. The Lenten season invites us to consider the ways in which we embody the love of Christ in our lives. May this scripture inspire us to live out the command to love one another, following Jesus’ example of selfless and unconditional love.

Prayer:

Loving Savior, as we ponder John 13:34, instill in us the capacity to love others as you have loved us. May your example of humble service and sacrificial love be reflected in our interactions and relationships. On this Maundy Thursday, help us internalize the call to love one another, making it a defining characteristic of our discipleship. Amen.
